Family Research Council

“FRC’s mission is to advance faith, family, and freedom in public policy and the culture from a biblical worldview.”

Founded in 1983, Family Research Council is a nonprofit research and educational organization

…Dedicated to articulating and advancing a family-centered philosophy of public life. In addition to providing policy research and analysis for the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the federal government, FRC seeks to inform the news media, the academic community, business leaders, and the general public about family issues that affect the nation from a biblical worldview.

Life and Human Dignity

Family Research Council recognizes and respects the inherent dignity of every human life, from conception until natural death. The value of human life is not conditional upon its usefulness to others or the state, or an arbitrary evaluation of “quality of life.” Rather, the value of human life is unconditional because God, the Author of life, has created all humans in His image and likeness.

Marriage, Family, and Sexuality

Family Research Council champions marriage and family as the foundational cornerstone of civilization, the seedbed of virtue, and the wellspring of society. Properly understood, “families” are formed only by ties of blood, marriage, or adoption, and “marriage” is a union of one man and one woman. The only appropriate context for sexual relations is within the marriage of a man and a woman. Moreover, we believe that because God created us “male and female” (Gen. 1:17), we have no right to re-create ourselves otherwise.

Family Research Council does not believe that “sexual orientation” should be included as a protected category in non-discrimination laws or policies, as it is not comparable to inborn, immutable characteristics such as race or sex.

Homosexual conduct is harmful to the persons who engage in it as it is associated with negative physical and psychological health effects. Thus, it is also harmful to society at large.

Sympathy and compassion must be extended to those who struggle with unwanted same-sex attractions, and every effort should be made to assist such persons in overcoming those feelings should they seek to do so. Many individuals have come to greater wholeness and wellness by seeking such help.

Religious Liberty and Conscience

Family Research Council believes that religious liberty—the freedom to hold religious beliefs of one’s own choosing and to live in accordance with those beliefs—is an inherent human right. Therefore, the religious liberty of all people of all faiths everywhere must be promoted and defended.

Civil Society

Christians have a biblical mandate to love our neighbors. In a representative democracy like the United States of America, one way we can fulfill this command is by actively engaging in the public policy concerns of our civil society. Family Research Council seeks to advocate for public policies that are consistent with a biblical worldview—particularly in areas touching society’s foundational cornerstone, the family.
